Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNO): Security forces on Monday detected and destroyed a suspicious object near Nehru Park on banks of Dal Lake, officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “The object was noticed along the lakefront, prompting an immediate response. Security personnel rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and suspended vehicular movement to ensure the safety of locals and tourists,” said an official. “Given the sensitivity of the location, the object was destroyed through a controlled explosion as a precautionary measure. The situation is fully under control,” he added. The controlled blast neutralised the suspected object without causing any damage or casualties. Authorities later resumed traffic movement after the site was declared safe, the official said as per KNO. Witnesses said soon after the object was spotted vehicles of the security forces surrounded the spot and disposed of the device. Meanwhile, videos of the controlled explosion went viral on social media, showing the suspected object being destroyed in a loud blast. Officials said that teams are investigating to ascertain the exact nature of the object. Moreover, later in the day, security forces secured the lakefront while photographs from the spot pointed out locals and security personnel gathering to check the site and commuters resuming their journey after traffic was restored near Nehru Park—(KNO)
